Thistle Farm is pleased to offer farm tours to schools, daycares, and community groups. Tour dates vary slightly depending on weather but are generally available from late March to early November. Our tours offer the visitor an opportunity to experience first-hand the benefits and challenges of organic farming and to learn where their food comes from and how food production systems work.
Tours generally run from one hour to an hour and a half depending on age and ability of group. Content of the tour may vary depending on the requirements of group i.e. educational, recreational etc. Tours usually entail a visit to the greenhouse, walk through the fields, visit with the poultry and view of farm equipment used in our operation. Children will have the opportunity to pick and clean vegetables, view beehives and feed the chickens, geese and ducks.
Pumpkin Tours: Pumpkin tours are available only from late September to the end of October depending on weather. The content is similar to the general tour but includes a visit to the pumpkin patch and a short educational talk on pumpkins. Tours must be booked a minimum of one week in advance of desired date.
Costs: All tours are a minimum of $20.00 otherwise the charge is $2.00 per child. This does not include any items purchased from the farm. Groups are welcome to have lunch or snack in our picnic area. Washroom facilities are available.
As Thistle Farm is a working farm, tours are only available Mondays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays during the months of June- October.
For Safety reasons children must be accompanied by an adult at all times.
